FutureCoast Events

  • AGU-FCThanks to all the new friends of FutureCoast who saw us at the PoLAR Partnership booth at the American Geophysical Union annual conference in San Francisco. Very interesting discussions with visitors from all over the world!

  • fv-amnh-smThe YouthCaN group at AMNH recovered a chronofact, did forwardhearing, and created some future voicemails in our 90-minute workshop. In the words of the students:

"It was fun because it made us think and be physical and be creative."

"It teaches you that even though we think we know what the future has in store, it's like we don't care and we just ignore it."

  • ojai2-FCWe spent some lovely hours in the Ojai valley as part of the Thacher School's 'Power of Story' workshops. With students we listened to FutureCoast voicemails and talked about what makes a voicemail sound authentic and what the future that it comes from might be like. The students then recorded voicemails of their own. One voicemail even referenced a local tradition of getting a holiday when it snows (a very rare event in this Southern California town).

  • play-as-inquiry-FCPlay as Inquiry, hosted by the University of Chicago's Grey Center, asked artists and scholars how they might construe their practices as play. It was fantastic to hear the voicemails generated by this diverse group of folks: from writers to clowns, physicists to sound artists, and anthropologists to choreographers.

  • Chronofact at the London Forum

We were selected to participate in The London Cross-Media Forum 2013, a two-day international storytelling conference organized by Power To The Pixel. At the Forum, media storytellers showcased cutting-edge works and participated in knowledge exchange at The Pixel Market.

  • sf-workshop-fc

Our very first FutureCoast workshop. A group of brave volunteers ventured out to the Mission neighborhood to help us test out some of our ideas about voicemail and timestream creation. Special thanks to all involved (many of the voicemails from this workshop can be heard on FutureCoast today)!
